    About the position

    Over recent years, IDC has established a leadership position with its industry research and consulting into the market for, and the use of, big data technology solutions. IDC analysts have become well known around the world for their knowledge and work in this area. Our industry coverage spans related hot topics such as the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. The work includes modeling the market, conducting surveys and interviews with technology users, and writing position papers on the benefits of the technology, and the likely development of the market.

    Recently IDC has won a series of contracts linked to European Union research programs on the economic potential for big data analytics and the use of benchmarking to improve company performance, and that means we need an additional resource to support our senior analysts.

    As Research Analyst, you will support the development of reports and presentations on the topics of AI, business analytics, big data and other software areas, some linked to the EU work and some to our other advisory and consulting work.

    You will work with experienced IDC analysts and consultants, in a small team context. This role will require a mix of quantitative and qualitative analysis skills. Experience of quantitative analytic and data science methods and tools would be a definite asset. Some familiarity with Microsoft Office tools is expected but training courses on advanced use of these tools is also available. IDC runs a large number of training courses every year and is keen to advance its staff's competencies in hard and soft skills.

    We are looking for someone who can tell stories, recognize patterns and devise and describe appropriate models. Someone articulate, collaborative, creative, and open; a self-starter, able to work on their own initiative to deliver to agreed goals, happy to work in an informal, team-oriented environment, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for quality. Someone willing to accept challenges, and eager to learn more about the IT industry and IT applications.

    This position initially as a fixed-term contract to the end of 2018. At that point the role will become a permanent position.

    • Attend progress meetings around Europe, reporting results and acting as an interface for other staff;
    • Research company activities by desk research, attending conferences and face to face meetings;
    • Support IDC's sales and marketing teams in promoting IDC research and consulting.

    The desired individual will likely have 1-3 years of experience in working in a research, market research and/or consulting environment. Work experience in an ICT company is of particular interest. Additionally, the following skills and attributes are desired:
