  • Overview

Artificial Intelligence is one of the technology industry's hottest topics today, and its influence is being felt strongly in many different areas of IT. It promises to revolutionise business: it can transform how people work, how they interact with computers, and dramatically change business processes as intelligent systems take on tasks previously restricted to humans.

IDC, the premier ICT industry research consultancy, has established a global thought leadership position with its research into the developing market for AI and its application in business transformation, which is leading to an increasing work stream with technology users and suppliers.

Consequently, IDC Europe is looking for a Senior Research Director to head up its market analysis and consulting work relating to the supply and use of AI software, services and solutions. The person we seek will lead IDC’s multidisciplinary European AI practice, and will drive thought-leadership around IDC's research into the AI industry in Europe, engaging with potential customers for our products and services, and contributing to global research initiatives. You will work with colleagues researching adjacent areas such as blockchain, quantum computing, enterprise applications and digital marketing.

    Responsibilities

The holder of this post will take responsibility for the success of the practice by

    • developing a compelling industry research agenda, supported by other practice members
    • working with other parts of IDC to drive new business engagements and develop opportunities
    • promoting IDC's products, services and thought leadership, in AI and in other topics such as Digital Transformation or Quantum Computing
    • contributing to European and global IDC research deliverables, both quantitative models and qualitative research reports, in AI and related areas of software and services
    • Mentoring and managing other IDC staff
    • Delivering on bespoke consulting projects and one-to-many deliverables such as webcasts, reports for research advisory services, and presentations at client and industry events.

The successful candidate will work with colleagues across the European research organization and globally, and will collaborate closely with Consulting and Sales groups to drive the success of the practice.

    • Broad, demonstrable knowledge of AI solutions and its usage, including its application to common business use cases, the major suppliers, their products and services, and their strategies for market success,
    • A working knowledge of approaches to AI and machine learning solutions development (the development of AI solutions is not a component of this role)
    • Knowledge of the general market for business applications software and related IT services, and the major players in those markets.
    • Confident and credible to act as consultant to senior management in both technology users and suppliers
    • Business acumen and appetite to drive a P&L
    • A quick and creative thinker who can create innovative offerings for clients, and show versatility in dealing with a broad range of IT topics
    • Exceptional communication skills – written and verbal mastery of English required – coupled to good Microsoft Office skills
    • Excellent team player, with good organizational and time management skills
    • Eight years job experience in IT product marketing, market research, management consulting, solutions development or market intelligence

The role will be based in one of IDC's European offices in London, Frankfurt, Munich or Copenhagen and will involve some travel, predominantly within the region. Remote working could be considered for exceptional candidates.

IDC is keenly interested in the development of its staff and offers a wide range of training courses to help develop your skills further.

The selection process will take place in several phases, starting with an initial telephone-based discussion before progressing to a formal interview at IDC's offices.
