Rare opportunity for a senior technology researcher or strategic thinker to join an influential team of technology research analysts based in Auckland, working in the part of the business responsible for researching ICT spending by different industries. You will be passionate not just about technology but how it is disrupting the business world and how research and insights can help those grappling with technology-driven business change. You must be confident in researching industry trends, have a flair for writing persuasively and the ability to present and defend your findings to executive decision makers and influencers.


This role requires engagement with industry stakeholders and the ICT ecosystem across multiple strategic projects ranging from IT decision maker surveys, benchmarking studies, ICT spending forecasts and digital strategies. As a research manager/ analyst you will be comfortable, interviewing and engaging with vendors and senior technology users to analyse and develop independent views and insights on the NZ ICT market that add real business value to IDC's NZ clients.



The role reports to the Country Manager and is based in Central Auckland. Primary responsibilities of the role include:

  • Creating and delivering technology and industry research, both qualitative and data focused.
  • Building relationships and engaging with technology providers, retailers and vendors both locally and globally through teleconferences, on-site briefings and occasional travel to major industry events.
  • Preparing clearly-articulated, well-researched and credible market reports and commentary, using a mix of both primary research and secondary sources.
  • Engaging with New Zealand service providers, technology providers and industry bodies to drive the identification, scoping and delivery of research opportunities, with support from sales and wider analyst teams.
  • Presenting IDC market research & expertise to clients and facilitate strategic technology/ business discussions with C level Execs at internal & external IDC events.
  • Contributing insight to other New Zealand analysts compiling detailed analyses and forecasts of the NZ technology markets
  • Managing and supporting client inquiries while enhancing IDC’s customer experience
  • Working closely with IDC's international analysts and sales teams, particularly in Australia, and Asia-Pacific.



Interested individuals that meet the following minimum requirements are encouraged to apply:


  • A strong understanding of the dynamics of digital transformation and how it is impacting IT buyers, decisionmakers, influences and the provider ecosystem.
  • Individuals with 10+ years ICT industry experience, likely with the last three to five spent in New Zealand or Australia, enabling you to have built up a strong network of senior ICT contacts.
  • Familiarity with ICT technologies, emerging digital transformation trends, providers and vendors.
  • Minimum university or college degree, BA, BSc or equivalent.
  • High level of numeracy.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English
  • MS Excel and PowerPoint intermediate level experience required. Familiarity with statistical programs or econometrics advantageous.
  • Accomplished public speaker and preferably experience as a roundtable/panel facilitator. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to influence, persuade and inspire the audience. It's not just about delivering research results; it's about deriving meaningful commercial insights for out clients and being able to tell a compelling story that supports recommendations.
  • A doer – used or willing to work in a flat-structured, collaborative, not very corporate environment
  • A strong desire to succeed and the ability to work independently.
  • NZ citizen or permanent resident.
